Calgary International Film Festival to introduce $10,000 award for Best Narrative Feature Film

ERIC VOLMERS, CALGARY HERALD

The Calgary International Film Festival will be awarding a Canadian filmmaker $10,000 this year.

The focus on the juried award, which will go to the Best Canadian Narrative Feature Film, will focus on emerging directors “who do not yet have a history of major theatrical distribution.”

The festival will also be awarding $2,500 to the top short films in three categories: Best Alberta Short, Best Narrative Short (Live Action or Animated) and Best Documentary Short.

A “Fan Award” will also be introduced this year, which only members who have purchased a festival ticket pack or pass can vote on.

The Calgary International Film Festival runs from Sept. 20 to Oct. 1.
